Baccarat is a card game in which players bet on whether the Banker or Player hand will win, or on a tie. The Banker bet has one of the lowest house edges in the casino at about 1.06%, the Player bet 1.24%, and the Tie a costly 14% or more.

How baccarat is played
Despite its high-roller reputation, baccarat requires no decisions from the player. You simply bet on the Banker hand, the Player hand, or a Tie. Both hands are dealt by fixed rules, the totals are compared, and the hand closest to nine wins. Card values are straightforward: tens and face cards count as zero, and totals above nine drop the tens digit.
Why the Banker bet is best
The Banker hand wins slightly more often because it draws its third card after seeing the Player’s, so casinos take a small commission (usually 5%) on Banker wins. Even after that commission, the Banker bet’s house edge is about 1.06% — among the lowest available. The Player bet is close at 1.24%. The Tie, despite its tempting 8-to-1 payout, carries an edge above 14% and should be avoided.
