What an RNG actually does
A casino RNG is software that produces a continuous stream of unpredictable numbers, thousands per second, whether anyone is playing or not. The moment you click spin, the game grabs the current numbers and maps them to reel positions, cards or wheel outcomes. Two things follow from this design: results are decided at the instant of play, not planned in advance for your session; and each outcome is independent — the game does not know or care that you just lost ten spins. How certification works
Before a regulator approves a game, an accredited laboratory examines the RNG on two fronts. Statistically, the output must pass batteries of randomness tests — chi-square, serial correlation, runs tests and industry standards like GLI-11 — across enormous samples, proving the numbers are uniformly distributed and free of patterns. Structurally, the lab reviews how the RNG is seeded and integrated, confirming outcomes cannot be predicted or influenced by the operator, the studio or the player, and that the certified build is the build actually deployed. Certificates are issued per game version and per jurisdiction, and regulators can demand re-testing after any change.
What certification does not cover
RNG certification proves the outcomes are random — it does not make a game generous. A certified slot with a 90% RTP version is certified to lose you 10% of turnover on average, entirely fairly. Certification also cannot protect you at an unlicensed casino running pirated game copies: cloned versions of popular slots exist on rogue sites, visually identical but running uncertified maths.
