The RTP you actually get

This is the part most pages about this game get wrong, and it is the single most useful thing to know before you play it. Pragmatic Play does not ship one game with one return. It certifies the same title at several different RTP settings and lets each casino choose which one to license. The game looks identical either way — same symbols, same features, same maths on screen — but the money is not the same.

Pragmatic Play’s own game page publishes only the top figure. Every lower version is documented by operator paytables and slot databases rather than by the studio, which is exactly why the difference goes unnoticed: the number a casino runs is visible in its own game information screen, and nowhere else.

The gap is not academic. Across a long session the difference between the top and bottom settings is a meaningful share of your stake, and it is invisible unless you look it up.

How the game works

There are no paylines and no wild symbols. Eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid pay, wherever they land — the mechanic our scatter symbols page covers in general. Winning symbols are then removed, everything above drops down, new symbols fall in from the top, and the sequence repeats until a drop produces no win. There is no cap on how many times this can happen in a row.

The multiplier orbs are what separate it from an ordinary tumbling slot. They land at random on any reel carrying values from 2× to 500×, and they pay nothing on their own. If a winning combination lands on the same tumble, every visible orb value is added together and the total is applied to that win. Two orbs showing 50× and 100× make 150×, not 5,000× — they add, they do not multiply, and that distinction is the difference between a good session and a misunderstanding.

Free spins

Four or more Zeus scatters anywhere on the grid award 15 free spins. The scatters also pay immediately: four pays 3× your bet, five pays 5×, six pays 100×. Landing three or more scatters during the round adds five more spins, and there is no stated limit on how often that can happen.

The persistent multiplier — the whole game

In the base game, orb values apply only to the tumble sequence they landed in and then vanish. In free spins they do not. Every orb collected is added to a running total that is displayed on screen and held for the rest of the feature, and every subsequent win is multiplied by that accumulated total.

This is why the game’s big results come almost exclusively from free spins, and why a feature that starts slowly can still finish enormously — the multiplier carries forward even through spins that pay nothing.

Bonus buy, ante bet and what they cost

The ante bet raises your total stake by 25% and roughly doubles the chance of triggering free spins by putting more scatters on the reels. It does not change the RTP version your casino is running, and while it is switched on the buy feature is unavailable — the two cannot be combined.

The buy costs 100× your stake and drops you straight into the feature. Our bonus buy page covers the general trade-off: you are paying a fixed price for a random outcome, and the price is set so that the house edge survives the transaction.

Where the game plays differently

United Kingdom

UK-licensed casinos strip the feature buy out of this game entirely — the Gambling Commission treats buying a bonus as incompatible with its remote technical standards, and has done since 2019. Autoplay and turbo spin are also gone, spins take a minimum of 2.5 seconds, and since September 2024 stakes are capped at £5 a spin, or £2 for players aged 18 to 24. Demo play is available but only behind age verification.

Germany

Germany’s state treaty regime removes the buy feature, bans autoplay and imposes a roughly five-second minimum spin. The per-spin stake cap, long fixed at €1, was raised in July 2026 to €3 for players over 21 and €5 for players showing no risk markers over the preceding 90 days.

Where to play it

Gates of Olympus is close to universally stocked wherever Pragmatic Play is licensed, so the question is rarely whether a casino has it — it is which RTP version that casino chose, and whether the buy and ante features survive in your market. Both are answered by the game’s own paytable once you open it.

• Whether the ante bet and the buy feature change the RTP on this title. Its sibling Gates of Olympus 1000 publishes 96.50% for the ante and 96.49% for the buy in its paytable; no equivalent figure is documented for the original, and we will not copy one across.
• The exact ladder of multiplier orb values. Sources establish the 2× to 500× range but not every step within it.
• The absolute cash cap. It appears to be set per operator and per currency rather than by the studio, which is why we state the maximum as a multiplier of stake.
